Muskoka Cottage Site Blasting Rock & Foundation Preparation
At CedarCoast Homes, we’re building custom cottages across Muskoka, often on challenging sites. On this Walker’s Point project, we’re beginning site blasting and foundation preparation on a steep, bedrock lot.
A Steep Muskoka Site - Ready for What’s Next
Hi everybody - Ryan here from CedarCoast Homes. In this How Do We Do It? update, we’re checking in from our Walker’s Point job site on a crisp fall day in Muskoka. The colours are turning, and the build is moving into an exciting early stage: site blasting and foundation preparation.
Why Blasting Is Part of Building on Bedrock
This is a very steep site with plenty of exposed bedrock - a common reality when building on Muskoka terrain. Before we can start foundation work, we need to shape the site properly. That’s where professional blasting comes in.
Our blasters are on site now, carefully prepping the area so we can:
- Establish the right elevations and access points
- Create a stable footprint for the build
- Prepare the ground for footings and foundation work
What Happens After the Blasting
Once the blasting is complete, the next steps are straightforward - but important:
- Move and remove rock from the site
- Clean up and fine-grade the working areas
- Get the site ready to begin footings
Each phase is planned to keep the project safe, efficient, and ready for the next step.
