Pouring Concrete Foundations in Challenging Muskoka Weather

In this episode of our How Do We Do It? series, Ryan walks through an active foundation pour, showing how we safely and precisely place concrete into insulated concrete forms (ICFs) - despite less-than-ideal weather conditions.

This Muskoka cottage foundation pour is part of CedarCoast’s “How Do We Do It?” series, showcasing real construction processes, site by site.

Building Strong Foundations, Step by Step

Hi everybody - Ryan here from CedarCoast Homes. In this How Do We Do It? update, we’re checking in from our Walkers Point job site, showing that even on a grey November day in Muskoka, progress doesn’t stop.

As you can see on site, both the concrete truck and pump truck are positioned up the driveway, allowing concrete to be delivered efficiently through the pump line directly into the ICF walls. This method ensures a consistent, controlled pour, even in tight or sloped cottage lots.

While the concrete is being placed, our foundation contractor follows closely behind, installing additional rebar as required. This ongoing reinforcement is critical to creating a strong, durable foundation  that will support the cottage for generations to come.

Why This Matters

Pouring concrete in cooler, unpredictable weather requires experience, planning, and attention to detail. From logistics and timing to reinforcement and quality control, every step is carefully managed to ensure structural integrity - no shortcuts, no compromises.

This is how we build cottages that last.  We’ll continue to share updates as construction progresses. Thanks for tuning in, and follow along as this project takes shape.
