Tour this Fully Accessible Muskoka Cottage on Camel Lake

Tour Brendabode Cottage with Designer Mariah Hill

This cottage was designed with one goal in mind: create a beautiful Muskoka retreat that can be enjoyed comfortably for years to come.

Working with CedarCoast designer Mariah Hill, the owner chose a single-level layout that supports aging comfortably in place while maintaining the warmth and character of a traditional Muskoka cottage.

A Cottage Designed for Aging in Place

The entire cottage is built on one accessible level, allowing easy movement through the home without stairs.

Thoughtful planning inside and out ensures the cottage will remain comfortable and practical in the years ahead. Wide circulation spaces, simple room connections, and easy access to outdoor areas make everyday life at the lake effortless.

Easy Access to the Lake

Accessibility extends beyond the house itself. Landscaped paths guide visitors around the cottage and gently down to the dock, making the lake easy to reach without steep grades.

A Kitchen Built for Gathering

At the center of the home is a welcoming kitchen designed for everyday cottage life.

A large island finished in leathered natural stone creates space for preparing meals or gathering with family and friends. Rift-cut white oak cabinetry and continuous white oak flooring contribute to the warmth and simplicity of the cottage.

Warm Living Spaces

The living area is anchored by a cylindrical wood stove that can pivot, allowing the fire to be viewed from different parts of the room.

Large windows maintain views of the surrounding forest, keeping the connection to the landscape front and center.

A Muskoka Screen Room

A spacious screened room extends the living area outdoors.

With a Weatherwall system, the room can be closed in cooler months while still allowing the furniture to remain in place year-round. During warmer weather the panels open to create a breezy gathering space.

Thoughtful Layout for Privacy

The home’s layout separates the open living area from the bedroom wing.

A den and office create a comfortable transition between gathering spaces and the private rooms of the cottage, allowing both quiet relaxation and entertaining.

A Cottage for the Future

This Camel Lake project shows how thoughtful design can create a cottage that feels both timeless and practical.

With its accessible single-level layout, natural materials, and strong connection to the landscape, the home ensures this special Muskoka property can be enjoyed for many years to come.
