Do you have to paint the wood in a timber home?

The interior wood can be painted if you wish, but most people either do nothing (which is fine) or put a coat of clear sealer on the wood. Alternatively, we can factory-finish the wood, which gives a beautiful furniture-like finish. Either way, there is no maintenance on the interior wood - it will never have to be finished again.
